Welcome To Footsteps

Footsteps is a leadership and entrepreneurial incubator that was established in 2015. Our mission is to identify and invest in girls and young women in marginalized communities by unleashing their leadership potential to transform lives and accelerate prosperity within their communities.

Why We Passionately Do What We Do

  • Around the world, 62 million girls are not in school.
  • In Kenya, almost half of new HIV infections are among adolescents and young people. A new study conducted by the National Aids Control Council shows that the prevalence rate has increased from 29% in 2014 to 46% in 2016. (In Kenya 45% of the general population in Kenya are young people below the age of 15 while 19% of the general population is young people between the ages of 15 to 24 years).
  • 63 % of girls and women living in urban areas living below the poverty lines. Girls and women living in the urban slums of Nairobi are faced with Social and economic instability and vulnerability, experiencing some of the lowest school enrollment rates in Kenya, these girls are exposed to violence and insecurity in their everyday lives, and they are at an increased risk for early pregnancy and HIV/AIDS.
